Custom cannabis concentrate packaging works best as a complete system.
The jar, closure, liner, artwork, label, tamper evidence, paperboard display, case quantities, and production schedule must work together. Evaluate the complete configuration before ordering so the finished package protects the product, supports compliance and retail presentation, and moves efficiently through production.
Sana Packaging’s concentrate packaging options include glass jars, child-resistant lids, flexible pouches, customizable components, and paperboard displays designed for 9ml concentrate jars.
Choose the Primary Package for the Product
Choose the primary package before finalizing labels, tamper-evident components, display packaging, or artwork.
Confirm:
- Concentrate type and viscosity
- Intended fill weight and required headspace
- Direct product-contact surfaces
- Closure and liner compatibility
- Filling and sealing process
- Storage and transportation conditions
- Barrier and leak-performance requirements
- Child-resistance and tamper-evidence requirements
- Number of SKUs
- Target markets
Sana Packaging’s 9ml Glass Concentrate Jar is available in clear, matte white, and glossy black. The jar is packed 240 units per case and is designed for compatible 38-400 closures.
The glass jar is not child-resistant by itself.
Sana Packaging’s 38-400 Sana Ocean Concentrate Screw-Top Lid is a child-resistant closure made from reclaimed ocean-bound HDPE. It is packed 1,500 units per case and stocked with pre-inserted Esterfoil liners.
Test the complete jar-and-lid system with:
- The intended concentrate fill
- The required product-contact and compatibility conditions
- The actual closing process
- Applicable child-resistance requirements
- Expected storage and transportation conditions
- The production filling process
- Labels and tamper-evident components
The jars and lids are sold separately and use different case quantities. Plan order quantities and production needs around both pack sizes.
Other concentrate formats may include the Sana Hemp Container and Flexible PCR Pouches. Evaluate each format for the intended product, market, closure, barrier, labeling, filling, storage, and transportation requirements.
Paperboard displays are secondary packaging. They can organize and present filled 9ml jars, but they do not replace the primary package’s product-contact, closure, barrier, child-resistant, resealable, or tamper-evident functions.
Evaluate Child Resistance, Liners & Tamper Evidence Separately
A 9ml glass concentrate jar is not automatically child-resistant.
Child resistance depends on the complete jar, closure, liner, and finished-package configuration. Sana Packaging’s 38-400 Sana Ocean concentrate lid is a child-resistant closure, but brands should request documentation for the exact components being ordered and confirm that the finished configuration meets every applicable market requirement.
Confirm:
- Which package component must provide child resistance
- Which testing standard applies
- Whether the requirement applies before opening, throughout repeated use, or both
- Whether the documentation matches the exact jar, lid, liner, and configuration
- Whether labels, bands, seals, or customization could interfere with closure operation
- Whether the finished configuration satisfies every target market
The federal special-packaging effectiveness specifications appear in 16 CFR 1700.15, and the testing procedures appear in 16 CFR 1700.20. State cannabis programs may reference these specifications or impose additional requirements.
Child-resistant does not mean childproof. It also does not establish tamper evidence, leak resistance, barrier performance, or product compatibility.
Liners & Seal Performance
The stocked 38-400 screw-top lid uses a pre-inserted Esterfoil liner.
Evaluate the liner as part of the complete closure system, including:
- Product-contact suitability
- Closure fit
- Compression and sealing performance
- Oil and concentrate compatibility
- Aroma and odor transmission
- Leak resistance
- Opening and reclosing performance
- Storage and transportation conditions
Test the actual finished product in the selected jar, lid, and liner configuration. Additional sealing options may be available for projects that meet higher minimum order quantities.
Tamper Evidence
Child resistance and tamper evidence are separate functions.
Sana Packaging’s Customizable Stone Paper Tamper Bands measure 0.25 by 2 inches, are packed 4,000 bands per roll, and include perforations that provide visible evidence of opening. The band does not provide child resistance independently.
Other tamper-evident options may include:
- Tamper-evident labels
- Inner seals
- Sealed paperboard outer packaging
- Other project-specific seals or constructions
A standard retail paperboard display is not automatically child-resistant or tamper-evident.
Map each required function to the component responsible for providing it. Then test the finished package after adding the label, band, seal, display, and any other component.
Plan Printing & Labeling Around the Finished Package
Select the jar, lid, liner, and tamper-evident configuration before finalizing artwork.
The right printing and labeling plan depends on:
- Jar and lid colors
- Number of SKUs
- Required regulatory information
- Available print and label areas
- Label stock and adhesive
- Variable-data requirements
- Barcode and QR-code requirements
- Tamper-band or seal placement
- Order quantity
- Production schedule
- Application process
Labels may be applied to the jar, the lid, or both. The 38-400 lid has a product-specific template, and the available print area differs from the jar’s label area.
Depending on the project, customization may use pressure-sensitive labels, direct printing, or a combination of methods. Confirm the available method, minimum order quantity, lead time, color requirements, and proofing process for the exact component.
Label printing and application means the labels are printed and applied to the packaging before shipment. This can reduce the number of vendors, production steps, and in-house labor so the packaging arrives ready to fill.
Before approving artwork, confirm:
- The current product-specific template
- Final dimensions
- Closure clearance
- Label overlap and edge clearance
- Required regulatory copy
- Required symbols and clear space
- Barcode and QR-code placement
- Label orientation
- How the complete package aligns when closed
- How the finished package appears in the paperboard display
Test label adhesion on the selected surface, and inspect finished samples before full production.

Add Paperboard Displays for Retail Presentation
Sana Packaging’s Custom 9ml Concentrate Jar Paperboard Displays are designed to organize filled concentrate jars for shelf or counter presentation.
Available formats include:
- A 6-count wide display with a lower profile
- A 6-count narrow display for tighter shelf or counter space
- A 12-count display for higher-volume presentation
The displays are made in the United States from 18-point paperboard. Material options include:
- 30% hemp fiber and 70% post-consumer waste paperboard
- 100% post-consumer waste paperboard
One-sided full-color printing is included. The TÜV Home Compostable certification applies to the printing inks, not to the complete paperboard display.
The minimum order quantity is 250 displays per format, material, and design combination. Standard production time is approximately 10 to 14 business days after proof approval.
Display artwork may include:
- Brand and product information
- QR codes
- Compliance information
- Responsible-material information
- Other retail messaging
Plan artwork around the selected display’s folds, jar cutouts, creases, panels, bleed, and safety areas. A separate artwork file is required for each design.
Jars and lids are sold separately from the displays. Confirm the assembled fit after adding the jar and lid labels, tamper-evident bands, and any other finished-package components.
The display is secondary packaging. It does not replace the jar-and-lid system’s product-contact, barrier, closure, child-resistant, resealable, or tamper-evident functions.
Build Pricing From the Complete Configuration
Build the quote from every component and service required to move from empty packaging to a shelf-ready package.
Current published blank-stock pricing for clear 9ml concentrate jars is:
- $0.32 per jar at 1,440 units
- $0.28 per jar at 10,560 units
- $0.24 per jar at 48,000 units
Published 38-400 lid pricing is:
- $0.28 per lid at 1,500 units
- $0.26 per lid at 15,000 units
- $0.24 per lid at 37,500 units
- $0.22 per lid at 75,000 units
Published stock tamper-band pricing is:
- $0.03 per band for one roll of 4,000
- $0.02 per band for 12 or more rolls
Published jar pricing applies to the clear 9ml jar. Request a quote for matte white or glossy black jars.
The jars, lids, and tamper bands use different case or roll quantities. Do not add unit prices without also confirming the number of cases, rolls, and excess units required for the order.
Custom labels, label application, direct printing, custom tamper bands, paperboard displays, freight, and taxes are additional. Display pricing depends on the selected format, material, quantity, number of designs, and services. One-sided full-color printing is included, and the minimum order is 250 displays per format, material, and design combination.
A complete quote may include:
- Jars
- Lids and liners
- Labels or direct printing
- Label application
- Tamper-evident components
- Paperboard displays
- Artwork, setup, and proofing
- Freight
- Taxes
- Production tolerances or overruns
- Other project-specific services
If a quote is described as out-the-door pricing, confirm exactly which components, services, freight, taxes, setup charges, and other costs are included. Do not assume that one published unit price represents the total finished-package cost.
Review the current product pages or request a project-specific quote before ordering.
Plan Production Timing by Component
Different packaging components can have different production schedules.
Current estimated timelines include:
- Blank in-stock packaging usually ships the next business day
- Custom tamper bands generally require 3 to 10 business days after proof approval
- Custom paperboard displays generally require 10 to 14 business days after proof approval
- Custom labels with application generally require about four weeks
- Custom flexible pouches generally require about three weeks
Direct-printed lids, custom colors, specialized seals, and other project-specific configurations may use different timelines.
Production lead time begins after print-ready artwork and proof approval. It may not include:
- Artwork development
- Revision cycles
- Sample testing
- Compliance review
- Freight time
- Delays caused by incomplete specifications
- Coordination between separately produced components
Components may ship separately. Build the schedule around the slowest required component, not the fastest stock item.
Use this sequence:
- Confirm the primary package and closure.
- Test the jar, lid, liner, label, and tamper-evident configuration.
- Select the paperboard display format and material.
- Confirm quantities, case packs, and minimum order quantities.
- Prepare artwork using the current product-specific templates.
- Review and approve proofs.
- Confirm component-level production and freight timing.
- Inspect finished packaging before filling and retail assembly.
Keep Material & Environmental Claims Component-Specific
The complete concentrate packaging system combines several materials and components. Environmental claims should identify the exact component and attribute being described.
- The glass jar is recyclable where accepted. A verified recycled-content percentage is not currently documented for the stock jar.
- The 38-400 lid is made from 100% reclaimed ocean-bound HDPE and is #2 recyclable where accepted. The Esterfoil liner is a separate component.
- The Stone Paper tamper band is approximately 80% calcium carbonate and 20% polyethylene. It is not plastic-free, compostable, or recyclable with paper.
- The paperboard display is available in either 30% hemp fiber with 70% post-consumer waste or 100% post-consumer waste. The TÜV Home Compostable certification applies to the printing inks, not the complete display.
- Labels and adhesives may affect component separation and local recovery.
Local collection and processing rules, product residue, component size, and the complete package configuration can affect actual recovery.
The FTC’s Green Guides address substantiation and qualification of environmental claims.
Avoid unsupported claims such as:
- 100% recyclable
- Recyclable everywhere
- Plastic-free
- Biodegradable
- Compostable
- Zero waste
- Closed loop
- Environmentally friendly
- Sustainable
Keep claims component-specific, appropriately qualified, and supported by current documentation for the exact package being sold.
