Containers & Bottles FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about our Containers & Bottles

What types of cannabis containers and bottles does Sana Packaging offer?

Sana Packaging offers child-resistant containers and bottles for cannabis flower, edibles, concentrates, and vape cartridges.

Current options include:

• 19-dram PCR pop-top bottles

• 30-dram PCR pop-top bottles

• The Sana Hemp Container

Materials, sizes, colors, case quantities, customization options, and inventory vary by product.

What is the difference between PCR pop-top bottles and the Sana Hemp Container?

PCR pop-top bottles are cylindrical dram containers with integrated pop-top closures. They are made from 100% post-consumer recycled polypropylene and provide a lightweight option for flower, gummies, and other edibles.

The Sana Hemp Container is a rectangular plant-based hemp plastic container with a removable lid that doubles as a rolling tray. Its nesting design supports efficient storage, and its larger printable surfaces provide room for branding and compliance information.

Which container size should I choose for cannabis flower?

Common starting points include:

• 19-dram PCR pop-top bottle: up to approximately 3.5g of cannabis flower

• 30-dram PCR pop-top bottle: up to approximately 7g of cannabis flower

• Sana Hemp Container: up to approximately 3.5g of cannabis flower

These capacities are guidelines. Flower density, moisture, trim, desired headspace, and packing method can affect the actual fit. Test the product in a sample before placing a production order.

Can these containers hold products other than cannabis flower?

Yes. PCR pop-top bottles can also be used for gummies and other appropriately sized edibles.

The Sana Hemp Container can accommodate flower, concentrates, vape cartridges, and edibles. Compatibility depends on the product’s dimensions, consistency, required inner packaging, and storage requirements.

Test the complete package with the actual product before production.

Are these cannabis containers child-resistant?

Yes. The PCR pop-top bottles use integrated child-resistant pop-top closures, and the Sana Hemp Container has a child-resistant pinch-and-slide lid.

Child-resistant packaging must be closed and used correctly to function as intended. Confirm the certification, testing standard, product configuration, and regulatory requirements applicable to your market.

Are the containers food-grade certified and FDA-compliant?

The PCR pop-top bottles are food-grade certified and FDA-compliant.

Certifications and documentation vary by product. Contact Sana Packaging for current food-contact, child-resistance, and material documentation for the exact container being considered.

FDA compliance does not replace cannabis packaging requirements or other regulations applicable to the finished product.

What materials are used to make the containers and bottles?

The PCR pop-top bottles are made in the USA from 100% post-consumer recycled polypropylene (PP), a #5 recyclable resin.

The Sana Hemp Container is made from plant-based hemp plastic consisting of approximately 30% micronized hemp hurd and 70% polylactic acid (PLA), along with plant-based binders. The resulting material is 100% plant-based and petroleum-free.

Are the containers recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable?

The PCR pop-top bottles are made from pure #5 PP, which may be recyclable where appropriate programs accept that material. Actual acceptance depends on local infrastructure, color, labels, residual product, and other factors.

The Sana Hemp Container is plant-based but is not certified as biodegradable or compostable. It should not be marketed as biodegradable or compostable. Verify disposal options with applicable local facilities and waste programs.

Plant-based content, recycled content, recyclability, biodegradability, and compostability are different material attributes.

Are the containers odor-proof or smell-proof?

Sana Packaging does not make a blanket odor-proof or smell-proof guarantee for every container and product combination.

Odor resistance depends on the container, closure, product, storage conditions, and repeated use. The Sana Hemp Container can also be paired with a compatible compostable film baggie when an additional inner layer is appropriate.

Test the complete package with the actual product before production.

Can cannabis containers and pop-top bottles be customized?

Yes. Available customization options may include:

• Traditional labels

• Label printing and application

• Digital printing on select components

• Pad printing on select components

• Custom colors for eligible products

• Branded tamper bands

• Compliance and product-information labeling

Available methods, minimum order quantities, printable areas, lead times, and color limitations depend on the selected product. Custom colors for PCR pop-top bottles are available at a one-pallet minimum.

Do the containers include tamper-evident packaging?

Child resistance and tamper evidence are separate packaging functions.

The containers are not automatically tamper-evident unless the selected product or custom quote specifically includes that feature. Customizable Stone Paper Tamper Bands are available for compatible containers.

Confirm the tamper-evident features required by your product and market before finalizing the package.

How do I order or request samples of cannabis containers and bottles?

PCR pop-top bottles and Sana Hemp Containers are sold by the case, with volume pricing available for larger orders. Custom colors, specialized printing, and other customizations may require higher minimum order quantities.

Samples are available for most products. Use samples to test product fit, closure performance, labels, tamper bands, storage, transportation, and the intended customer experience.
