Edibles FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about our Edibles

What types of cannabis edibles packaging does Sana Packaging offer?

Sana Packaging offers wholesale cannabis edibles packaging for gummies, candies, chocolates, mints, baked goods, powders, mixes, and other compatible edible products.

Current edibles packaging options include:

• 1oz glass jars

• 2oz, 3oz, and 4oz high-content recycled glass jars

• 4oz reclaimed ocean-bound plastic jars

• 19-dram and 30-dram PCR pop-top bottles

• Plant-based hemp plastic containers

• Customizable flexible pouches

• Compostable film inner baggies

• Compatible child-resistant lids

• Customizable tamper bands

• Paperboard outer packaging and inserts

• Printing and labeling options

Materials, capacities, colors, closures, liners, case quantities, customization options, and inventory vary by product.

Which cannabis edible package should I choose?

Choose the package based on the edible type, target net weight, unit dimensions and count, product consistency, desired headspace, product-contact requirements, closure, barrier needs, retail presentation, customization method, and budget.

Common starting points include:

• Small-count gummies, mints, or candies: 19-dram PCR pop-top bottle, 1oz glass jar, or a compatible customizable flexible pouch

• Larger-count or multi-serving gummies and candies: 30-dram PCR pop-top bottle, 2oz to 4oz glass jar, 4oz ocean-bound plastic jar, plant-based hemp plastic container, or a customizable flexible pouch

• Chocolates and baked goods: custom flexible pouches or project-specific paperboard packaging configured for the product's dimensions and temperature requirements

• Powders, mixes, and coated candies: compatible jars, bottles, or flexible pouches with an appropriate closure, liner, seal, and barrier structure

• Products requiring an inner liner: Compostable Film Baggie paired with a Sana Hemp Container or another appropriate child-resistant outer package

An edible's weight alone does not determine package fit. Product shape, piece count, bulk density, coating, texture, desired headspace, and filling method can change the required capacity.

Test the complete package with the actual edible under expected filling, storage, transportation, and use conditions before production.

What is the difference between glass jars, plastic jars, pop-top bottles, hemp containers, and flexible pouches?

Each format provides a different combination of product access, protection, presentation, closure style, material, and customization options.

• Glass jars provide a rigid, premium presentation with wide openings for product access. Compatible child-resistant lids are sold separately.

• The 4oz Ocean Jar is a lightweight, rigid package made from 100% reclaimed ocean-bound HDPE. A compatible 53-400 lid is sold separately.

• PCR pop-top bottles are lightweight, made from 100% post-consumer recycled PP, and include integrated child-resistant closures.

• The Sana Hemp Container is made from a 100% plant-based hemp plastic biocomposite and includes an integrated child-resistant sliding closure. It can be paired with a compatible inner baggie.

• Customizable flexible pouches are lightweight and support custom dimensions, full-color printing, multiple finishes, barrier options, and several zipper configurations.

• Compostable Film Baggies are heat-sealable inner packages made from certified compostable cellulose film. They do not provide child resistance on their own.

• Paperboard boxes and inserts provide customizable secondary packaging but do not contact the edible unless specifically designed and documented for that use.

The best format depends on the edible, filling process, shelf-life requirements, sales market, and desired customer experience.

Are lids, closures, liners, inner baggies, and tamper bands included with the edible packaging?

It depends on the package.

The 19-Dram and 30-Dram PCR Pop-Top Bottles include integrated pop-top closures. The Sana Hemp Container is sold as a complete container-and-lid set.

Glass jars and the 4oz Ocean Jar require compatible screw-top lids, which are sold separately:

• The 1oz Glass Jar uses a compatible 38-400 lid.

• The 2oz, 3oz, and 4oz Recycled Glass Jars use compatible 53-400 lids.

• The 4oz Ocean Jar uses a compatible 53-400 lid.

Flexible pouch closures are selected as part of the custom pouch configuration. Available options include child-resistant zippers, standard zippers, and no-zipper constructions.

Compostable Film Baggies have an open top that can be heat-sealed. They are sold separately from the Sana Hemp Container.

Stone Paper Tamper Bands, seals, labels, liners, inserts, and paperboard outer packaging are also sold separately unless specifically included in a custom quote.

Confirm the complete container, closure, liner, seal, tamper-evident feature, and secondary packaging configuration before ordering.

Is Sana Packaging's cannabis edibles packaging child-resistant?

Yes. Sana Packaging offers child-resistant edible packaging, but not every container or component is child-resistant on its own.

Child-resistant options include:

• 19-Dram and 30-Dram PCR Pop-Top Bottles with integrated closures

• Sana Hemp Containers with integrated sliding closures

• Glass and ocean-bound plastic jars paired with compatible child-resistant screw-top lids

• Flexible pouches configured with certified child-resistant zippers

A jar without its compatible child-resistant lid is not child-resistant. Compostable Film Baggies, standard pouches, labels, liners, tamper bands, inserts, and paperboard boxes also do not provide child resistance on their own.

Confirm the certification, testing standard, complete package configuration, and regulatory requirements applicable to every market where the finished edible will be sold.

Is the edible packaging food-grade and FDA-compliant?

Most Sana Packaging primary edible packaging products are food-grade and FDA-compliant, including select glass jars, plastic jars, PCR pop-top bottles, flexible pouches, lids, and compostable film baggies.

Documentation varies by container, material, closure, liner, seal, printing method, and complete package configuration. Contact Sana Packaging for current food-contact, child-resistance, and material documentation for the exact components being considered.

Food-grade or FDA-compliant packaging does not establish the safety, stability, shelf life, or regulatory compliance of the finished edible.

Is cannabis edible packaging airtight, odor-resistant, moisture-resistant, or leakproof?

Select packages, closures, liners, seals, and flexible film structures may provide airtight, odor-resistant, moisture-resistant, or leak-resistant performance. Sana Packaging does not make a blanket airtight, odor-proof, or leakproof guarantee for every edible and package combination.

Performance for rigid packaging depends on the jar or bottle, closure, liner, applied closure torque, fill level, product consistency, storage temperature, and repeated use.

Flexible pouch performance depends on the film structure, seams, zipper, completed heat seal, product characteristics, and storage conditions.

Packaging also cannot prevent melting, brittleness, sticking, oil migration, or other changes caused by the edible formulation or temperature conditions.

Test the complete package with the actual edible before production when freshness, moisture control, odor retention, leakage, temperature changes, shelf life, or product-to-package interaction is critical.

Does the edible packaging provide tamper evidence?

Child resistance and tamper evidence are separate packaging functions.

Cannabis edibles packaging is not automatically tamper-evident unless the product listing or custom quote specifically includes that feature. Compatible options may include:

• Perforated Stone Paper Tamper Bands

• Tamper-evident labels or stickers

• Liners and sealing options

• Heat-sealable pouch tops

• Pouches that must be torn open

• Heat-sealable inner baggies

• Custom pouch constructions

• Sealed paperboard outer packaging

Adding a tamper-evident component does not make a non-child-resistant package child-resistant. Confirm both requirements before finalizing the packaging system.

Which responsible material options are available for cannabis edibles packaging?

Available packaging and accessory materials include:

• Standard Type III soda-lime glass

• High-content recycled glass

• 100% reclaimed ocean-bound HDPE

• 100% post-consumer recycled PP

• A 100% plant-based hemp plastic biocomposite

• Standard and post-consumer recycled flexible films containing up to 65% PCR content

• Certified compostable cellulose film

• Traditional paperboard, post-consumer waste paperboard, and hemp paperboard

• Stone Paper Tamper Bands made from approximately 80% calcium carbonate and 20% polyethylene

Recycled content, plant-based content, recyclability, biodegradability, and compostability are different attributes.

Glass and eligible pure-resin plastic components are recyclable where local programs accept them. The Sana Hemp Container is not certified as biodegradable or compostable and should not be marketed or disposed of that way.

Compostable Film Baggies are certified compostable, but disposal options depend on the finished package, residual product, attached components, and available composting programs. Recycling and composting acceptance should be confirmed for the market where the package will be used.

Can I order custom cannabis edible packaging?

Yes. Available customization options include:

• Traditional labels

• Label printing and application

• Digital or pad printing on select containers and lids

• Full-color printed flexible pouches

• Standard and custom pouch dimensions

• Gloss, matte, soft-touch matte, and specialty pouch finishes

• Clear windows, metallic effects, and other eligible pouch treatments

• Custom colors for eligible plastic packaging

• Customizable Stone Paper Tamper Bands

• Paperboard boxes and inserts

• Compliance and product-information labeling

Custom colors for eligible rigid plastic packaging generally require a pallet-level or larger production order. Custom flexible pouches generally require 5,000 total units, with at least 2,000 pouches per SKU or design.

Paperboard packaging, inserts, labels, and other specialty projects have separate production requirements. Available printing methods, printable areas, artwork requirements, minimum order quantities, lead times, and pricing depend on the selected package.

A digital proof is provided for approval before custom production begins.

How do I order or request samples of wholesale edible packaging?

Stock edible packaging is generally sold by the case, pallet, or roll, depending on the product. Current quantities include:

• 256 units per case for 1oz Glass Jars

• Pallet quantities for 2oz, 3oz, and 4oz high-content recycled glass jars

• 500 units per case for 4oz Ocean Jars

• 416 units per case for 19-Dram PCR Pop-Top Bottles

• 272 units per case for 30-Dram PCR Pop-Top Bottles

• 1,000 units per case for 53-400 Ocean Screw-Top Lids

• 1,000 units per case for Compostable Film Baggies

• 4,000 Stone Paper Tamper Bands per roll

Custom flexible pouches are quote-based and generally require a minimum order of 5,000 total units.

Samples are available for most products. Use samples to test:

• Edible dimensions, count, net weight, and package capacity
